THE EXPERIENCE

Barrie Ward Council Candidate

My Priorities for Ward 1

• I am running for Ward 1 Councillor because I believe leadership should be about taking action and delivering real results for our community.
• My priorities focus on improving quality of life, supporting our most vulnerable residents, and making Ward 1 a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.

Helping People Experiencing Homelessness Rebuild Their Lives
• Homelessness is more than a housing issue—it is often connected to mental health, addiction, unemployment, and a lack of support.
• I want to move beyond simply talking about the problem and work toward practical solutions.
• My goal is to partner with community organizations, employers, and government programs to help individuals access rehabilitation services, receive job training, earn basic workplace certifications, and find stable employment.
• Every person deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life with dignity, purpose, and independence.

Supporting Mental Health with Stable Housing
• Too many individuals receive mental health treatment, are discharged from hospital once they are medically stable, and then have nowhere safe to go.
• Without stable housing and ongoing support, many end up back in crisis.
• I want to advocate for supportive housing initiatives that provide people with a safe place to live while connecting them with mental health services, nutritious meals, life-skills programs, and community support.
• Recovery doesn't end when someone leaves the hospital—it continues through stability, compassion, and access to the right resources.

Improving Sidewalks and Community Safety
• Safe, well-maintained sidewalks are essential for everyone, including seniors, families with strollers, people using wheelchairs, and residents who simply enjoy walking.
• I will work to identify damaged sidewalks, uneven pavement, and areas that create safety hazards.
• Investing in repairs and maintenance will make Ward 1 safer, more accessible, and easier to navigate for all residents.

Creating a Leash-Free Dog Park
• Many families in Ward 1 own dogs but have limited places where they can safely exercise and socialize off leash.
• I want to establish a dedicated leash-free dog park that provides a safe, clean, and welcoming space for pets and their owners.
• A dog park not only benefits animals but also creates opportunities for neighbours to meet, build friendships, and strengthen our sense of community.

A Commitment to Action
• These priorities are more than campaign promises—they are commitments I intend to pursue by working with residents, community organizations, businesses, and all levels of government.
• My goal is to create a Ward 1 where people feel safe, supported, and proud to call home, while ensuring every resident has the opportunity to succeed.
